I think that the 'Hall of Monuments' is gonna be a great feature! Frankly, I can't wait to start all over, and I wont be losing my hard earned titles. This will of course be even better if more of the titles get functions *hint hint*

Provisionally speaking, I won't be buying Guild Wars 2. It seems the team's philosophy in both PvE and PvP is moving away from what I enjoy about their current product, and towards the elements that I really, viscerally loathe about Nightfall.
...Were I a paranoid man - and I'm nothing if not that! - I'd suspect they've decided to allow Achievements to carry over onto the next game to spite me, in the full knowledge that I can't stand 'em since they started being linked to gameplay. The more realistic side of me acknowledges that I haven't been vocal enough in my disapproval for that to be the case, though.
(The inability to transfer characters is something I don't mind in the slightest - it's an obvious and sensible move in the face of the new races system and the full /levels rebalancing. In other words, that's not what I'm complaining about!)
The only question that remains is whether I'm likely to pick up Ye Olde Expansion Pack... And to be honest, I'm unsure. On one hand, I'm reasonably interested in "more-of-the-same" type content. On the other hand, PvE-only skills and the hero system have sucked enough of my enjoyment out of Nightfall PvE already - an expansion devoted entirely to those two elements sounds, well, bad.
...So on the current balance of probabilities, it looks like I'll stop playing Guild Wars if-when the userbase fragments off to play the new expansion. A pity, but then I've gotten plenty of value for my money already!
There's a moral here, kiddies: No matter what you're told by employees whose job it is to massage information, or by the all-too-zealous moderation team, you must get your complaints, ideas and requirements in early if you want to be heard. Once they're ready to announce official feature sets it's too late.
Way, way, waaay too late.
For example:
Quote:
FFS, the game is two years away, yet you and your cronies claim it's a WoW clone. Where exactly is your crystal ball shoved that you can make these statements with such authority?
|
...Shows you don't pay enough attention to how this system works. The simple fact of the matter is that the amount of cacophonous screaming on this board is going to directly affect how many WoW-type features do or do not end up in GW2. Minor features, that is, since it looks like it's too late for some details like the longer level progression (see my comments on "getting in early", above).
So even if you happen to be an illiterate idiot, you may as well tell them what you want - in all caps, if you must. Devs are human, whether they like it or not. This stuff sinks in.
[edit] Come to think of it, a game designed entirely around getting in a bunch of Gwen jokes sounds like my own personal hell! I hate that GW meme! [/edit]

clearly missed my point, *sigh*
and while GW isn't technically a MMORPG (a-net says so) GW2 certainly seems to be aimed at moving in that direction

So... GW2 does not sound like a great game to me atm. Has nothing that lured me to the original..
Ah well... some form of online Diablo will be out round that time.

My guess as to why Anet is seeking to change the style of play from a CORPG to an MMORPG, is probably a matter of technology and what they could afford. I'm betting that their original idea was to create an MMO, but they didn't have the resources or enough funding to get powerful servers for persistent world-style play.
Not to mention, two years ago at release, there were still a lot of people on dial-up. That number, I'm sure is decreasing each month, and by the time GW2 is out, should be almost nil.
Now that GW has been a resounding success, they have enough funding for powerful servers, and they can pursue their original plans. I think that if this true, I applaud it. The designers should do what they want to do with their game, and what makes it successful - GW2 looks like it is both.

I dont mind about the extra levels, if they are just a form of XP title than thats fine. So long as progression is fast, fun and non grind(rat killing FTL) I kinda don't care.
Part of me is Sad that we cannot take the characters over. But there is no reason, why in role playing terms the new character could not be the old one reborn into a new body. Cylon Shan - lol.
There is enough lore and backstory to support whatever we, the players come up with. So it's not the end of our characters, just a new start.
I understand about people wanting to celebrate and not lose ones items and achievements, heck i've spent millions on Shan. But this is a new story, a new journey and it's two years away.
So yes in two years Shan will be reborn, she'll probably look a little different, wont have the items right away she had before. But thats ok, it's sad in a way, and I think a few people feel as though they have been given a death sentence two years from now. But what those people need to realise is
1/ It's just a game, pick it up, put it down it does'nt matter. It has to end sometime.
2/ Your character is a representation of the RL you in a game. if the character goes, you don't vanish(thankfully - lol)
3/ There is no reason whatsoever that you cannot role play something like this "At the end of her life, Shan did not go to the hall of heroes. But under special intervention from Kormir was taken directly into the mists, to be reborn when Tyria needed her most.
Like King Arthur, Shan will go to her Avalon. Waiting, once more for Tyria to cry out in need"
See works for me.
Don't worry

Sounds like they're moving away from what i liked about this game... Oh well, there's still alot of time left for me to change my mind though. Gonna buy GWEN but if thats how GW2 is going to be (the preview) then I'll probably stay away.

And I just remembered! Make sure that the graphics are still so everyone can play GW2 on their comps, but that doesn't mean that the ones who have the cappacity, wouldn't like a bit of extra beauty
Me wants über graphics! XD

Realistically, in today's world, I do not think that the issue of whether it is a MMORPG or CORPG posed a big problem.
The important questions are:
1. Will the project (the game) be profitable? (ie How many players will it attract?)
2. Will there be potential for increased revenues?
Those are probably the more fundamental and immediate questions.
As such, it doesn't matter whether if it's a MMORPG or CORPG, in fact, it would be better if it can be an FPS, MMORPG and everything else into one, for the very reason that it can make its footing on other pies (population base) from the other categories of game. This inevitably brings us back to the most fundamental question, will the project be profitable?
I'm a firm and pragmatic believer of capitalism and politics, hence all these make sense to me when I see it from that direction.
I apologise if I am being too pragmatic or realistic in my approach to all these issues.
Regards,
Ariel

And you miss the entire point of the argument. Guild Wars is such a good game because, although it may be classified as an mmorg (or something rather), it's got a sense of balance to it. The balance that you just don't see in the other mmorgs, namely WoW. I'll use GvG as an example, you have 64 skills to choose from. You need to consider, your guild's strengths, weaknessess, current meta, can it split?, how should you play it?, who should play what roles?, how to deal with an X pressure build? Whereas in WoW it's more like "Ahhhh, I just saw those three rogues disappear. I'll just sit here and count to three while they stun, lock, and crit kill me. Yup, I love WoW." It's being overly harsh but nonetheless, GW is just so much different to those games. Further, let's not forget about PvE. Admit it or not, 99% of 'other mmorg' PvE is just senseless farming for loot. Sure you can do that in GW, but think about Lamda, Racthoh and Witte (and heaps more). Look at the challenge in GW PvE. If you want to, you can do smite runs every day and get rich fast. Np man, it's your account. But you can challenge yourself by trying to solo places that just seem to damn un-soloable, lol Sorrow's Furnace, Hell's Prec, Ring of Fire, The Deep, Nearly all of Tyria.. to name a few. Getting to it, GW is just so much different to those other games, to completely change it like that is just a real pity.
Thanks,

Biggest load of crud ever. Factions took 1 day to beat with a foreign character and NF took 3 days with a foreign character (mainly because of the f#%k up on the first day, yes you all know what im talking about). Add 2 days to each with a local character to get off noob island and lvl up.
The real reason they arent doing it anymore is cuz there arent any good games left for them to ripoff professions (D2 anyone...), and their devs dont have good imaginations.
I hope to God in GWs2 they can make decent cutsceens... about the only thing you didnt ripoff from D2.

Wow, I knew the news of CH4 and GW2 gonna be big, didn't expect it to be this big. A lot of anger, I can see why, I might as well stop whatever it is I'm doing in GW because it won't matter anymore.
But I will get GW:EN when that come out and will enjoy it for what it is. Also I would like to leave something of a legacy in that Hall of Monuments for some of my characters.
As for GW2, I will get it and play it, only then I can say if it's good or bad.

The same as it is to buy any game. To play it!!!! It sounds daft I know, but GW2 may be 2 years off, so I think people will need a change by then.

Let's stop the comparisons with WoW for now, we don't know how fast levelling will be and since Mrs.Gray is against tedious grinding I guess it'll be fast enough not to discourage people. I am very sure they know that this aspect of GW is one of the most important.

Its WAY too early to make opinions on this, wait until they do a preview event before launch (we all know they'll do it) and then see what you think, its hard to judge a game before its been released.
About the only thing that would ever stop me playing guild wars would be adding a monthly fee to the game.

anyone find it funny that there isn't actually a chapter four?
GW:EN isn't exactly a chapters worth, it's clearly an expansion... after all the hype all over guru over new professions, storyline, and all that, kinda an anti-climate for people in those forums
